Let me start off by saying that the word "Sensory Deprivation" is kind of the wrong words to be using. It should be more of "Sensory Relaxation" as Lee Perry put it, or even "Isolation Tank" sounds better. Sensory Deprivation is a tactic used to interrogate detainees on Guantanimo Bay, There tactics of course are more geared towards not enlightening there detainees but torturing them for information?...
In a completely dark and safe environment it makes for a very relaxing and enjoyable experience full of colors, paintings, dreams and the most amazing music, all with just our mind and body enclosed from any sight and sound.
I'll start off with a few of my experiences in the tank. My most break through experience was when I reached a state of what I believe was Samadhi.
Here is a quick description of that from Wikipedia.
It has been described as a non-dualistic state of consciousness in which the consciousness of the experiencing subject becomes one with the experienced object,[1] and in which the mind becomes still, one-pointed or concentrated[2] though the person remains conscious. In Buddhism, it can also refer to an abiding in which mind becomes very still but does not merge with the object of attention, and is thus able to observe and gain insight into the changing flow of experience.[3]
That was a pretty big break through for me and not only did I feel great then, I felt great for about 3 days after the float. I noticed deeper concentration and less tension in my body, I was more focused on living in the "Now" and not so much on trying to get to the next thing. I was not under the influence of any substances during the time of the float.
